MLB The Show 26 Showdown Secrets You Need to Know

1. Build a Boss-Specific Lineup

One of the biggest mistakes players make is drafting a “balanced” team. In Showdown, defense doesn’t matter at all. Here’s what to focus on:

  • Ignore Defense: You won’t play any fielding innings. Pick the best hitters, even if that means stacking your lineup with multiple shortstops or players out of position.
  • Stack Against the Boss’s Hand: If the final boss or mini-boss is a right-handed pitcher (RHP), load up on lefties or switch-hitters. Don’t let a high Overall (OVR) fool you into picking the wrong-handed batter.
  • Prioritize Clutch and Contact: The Clutch rating overtakes Contact when runners are in scoring position. Choose hitters with high Clutch stats to maximize key moments.

2. Abuse Time-Delayed Perks

Perks can give huge hidden boosts if you know how to use them:

  • “7th Inning or Later” Perks: Since every Showdown is coded as the 9th inning, perks like Clear for Takeoff or Rally Time are active from the very first pitch.
  • Stack Two-Strike Perks: Perks that boost contact and exit velocity on 2-strike counts turn your hitters into nearly un-strikeoutable monsters. Pair these with patient hitting, and you’ll dominate every at-bat.

3. Starve the Relievers (The Stamina Secret)

Boss relievers are fragile:

  • Wait for two strikes before swinging against closers like Mason Miller or Fernando Cruz.
  • Relievers have tiny stamina pools. Make them throw 4–6 pitches per batter to drain them quickly.
  • Once a pitcher’s stamina bar turns yellow or red, their accuracy and velocity drop, often leaving you with fat, middle-of-the-plate pitches.

4. Game the Out System to Avoid Double Plays

Double plays can kill your scoring chances. Avoid them with smart lineup planning:

  • 8-Hole Speed Strategy: Put your fastest base-stealer in the 8th or 9th spot. Many Showdowns start with a runner on base, and the game usually selects someone from the bottom of the order.
  • Steal Immediately: After a single or walk, send the runner to second before swinging with the next batter. This shuts down forced double plays.
  • Drop the PCI: If you have a slow runner on first, hold your Plate Coverage Indicator low to avoid swinging at sinkers that often produce ground-ball double plays.

5. Stick to the Normal Swing

Power swings (Square/X) might seem tempting, but they reduce your hitting window:

  • Use Normal Swing (X/A): Provides excellent exit velocity while keeping the contact area forgiving.
  • Save Power Swings for Desperation: Only use them if you need a very specific home run and the hitter has low power otherwise.

Showdown in MLB The Show 26 isn’t about classic baseball strategies—it’s about exploiting the game’s quirks. Build a lineup that counters the boss, stack perks smartly, and manipulate the CPU with patience and speed. Follow these secrets, and you’ll turn the 9th inning into your personal playground.
