Can video games help improve reaction time for real-life skills?

Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about reaction time and how people improve it. I know that real practice is the best way to learn any skill, but I was wondering if playing video games can also help with focus, quick thinking, and hand-eye coordination.
I enjoy retro games from time to time. While learning about PlayStation emulation, I came across a website, https://ps2biosworld.com , where I have been reading simple guides on PS2 BIOS and emulator setup. It made me think about how many classic games require fast reactions and good timing.

So I wanted to ask:
  • Do you think fast-paced games can improve reaction speed?
  • Have you noticed any real-life benefits from playing games that need quick decisions?
  • Are racing games or action games better for improving focus?
  • Or do you think only real-world practice makes a difference?
I'd love to hear your thoughts and personal experience. Thanks!
