BMW's hydrogen engine is indeed the BMW Hydrogen 7 , which is a luxury sedan with limited production 2005-2007 based on the 7 Series (E65). The car has a modified 6.0-liter V12 internal-combustion engine that produces 260 hp on hydrogen, and it can seamlessly switch to gasoline. The total number of units built for testing was only 100; however, BMW is now concentrating on fuel-cell technology leading to the iX5 Hydrogen prototype, not combustion methods.
