NHL Power Rankings From Maple Leafs to Red Wings the best thing going for each team so far

The 2018-19 NHL season is chugging along, and we've now had about two weeks of hockey to digest -- or regurgitate, depending on whether or not you follow the . Early on, we've had some contenders showcase their stuff -- the are particularly promising with their juiced-up corps starring , as expected. We've had some lowly clubs surprise with hot starts -- the aren't nearly as unwatchable as we predicted thanks to a ridiculous amount of shots on goal, but we'll see how long that lasts. And we've had some anticipated playoff candidates stumble out of the gate -- the , a popular wild-card pick, entered this week without a win, and the , despite their all-world Alexis Lafreniere Jersey blue line, have been slow to gel. It's all a pretty nice microcosm of two weeks in an NHL season, where teams can stack up points in a hurry. This week, as we run through all 31 teams around the league, we've decided to stick to the positives (mostly). In the latest edition of NHL Power Rankings, we're not only shuffling the 2018-19 pecking order, which the Maple Leafs now sit atop, but also identifying the best thing that each and Sergei Nemchinov Jersey every club has going for it after about 14 days of regular-season action: Biggest Movers 13 Canadiens 12 Golden Knights Rk Teams Chg Rcrd 1 When Auston Matthews slows down, there will be plenty of guys who pick up the slack. 3 46-26-10 2 Ryan Johansen is back. 1 47-30-5 3 Patrice! (And also: They apparently have some nice Tuukka Rask insurance.) 3 47-20-15 4 They're aggre sive, and they don't plan on changing. 7 52-23-7 5 They're collecting wins as fast as they can. (Seriously. This was supposed to be a year for regre sion, so a 3-0 start goes a long way.) 11 38-39-5 6 Just check their roster Walt Tkaczuk Jersey . Get their scorers angry over a goal drought, and they light it up. 4 45-29-8 7 John Gibson. Hands down. -- 27-50-5 8 This space should probably just say "Nathan MacKinnon" regardle s of the question. 1 50-25-7 9 Alex Ovechkin, experience and the fact we're only a half-dozen games in. 6 40-31-11 10 Their young talent. Cop-out? Perhaps, but nothing is more promising for their turnaround than their youth. 5 52-24-6 11 That first line. How beautiful it is. 1 52-21-9 12 Lucky pucks and overtime periods. 4 23-53-6 13 Just a man named Carey Price. 13 30-36-16 14 Evgeni Malkin is on a tear, and Sidney Crosby is still on the team. 1 38-32-12 15 Mike Smith can still be a whole lot better. 8 38-39-5 16 Conor Sheary has life outside of Pittsburgh. 1 39-37-6 Jaroslav Chmelar Jersey 17 They were able to muster three wins before Elias Petter son went down. 10 50-23-9 18 They have big names? (Seriously: There's plenty of time to gel.) 6 19-54-9 19 Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky are playing for next year's contracts. 1 27-43-12 20 You can pretty much only get better on offense. (Well, kind of.) 6 44-27-11 21 Mathew Barzal's upside. -- 39-27-16 22 They'll get James van Riemsdyk back some day. 3 38-33-11 23 Roberto Luongo shall return. 5 52-24-6 24 The defense in front of streaky Jake Allen is at least doing its part most of the time. 2 43-33-6 25 They're getting Igor Shesterkin Jersey good practice with lots and lots and lots of shots. 5 37-41-4 26 They can't po sibly keep losing so many one-goal affairs. 2 39-34-9 27 They're doing just fine with po se sion of the puck. 12 45-29-8 28 Connor McDavid. That's all. 3 49-27-6 29 Coyotes You can only get shut out so many times. 1 36-41-5 30 They've got just enough to make the rebuild appear competitive. 1 55-23-4 31 Again: The empty seats will now be black instead of red. 2 41-32-9
